Good morning this is Bates, with your Folly beach surf report and forecast for Saturday, October 14 at 8:30 a.m.
Hopefully everyone survived Friday the thirteenth. Another day, another dollar.
Surf at Folly is running waist to stomach high with an occasional chest set. Looks pretty fun at the high tide this morning. Get out here if you can.
Winds are light from the south at about 8 knots, and surf is a little bumpy, but there are some lines to be had.
We look for winds to come side-shore today from the west/south-west at 10 to 15 knots, so hopefully it won’t get too choppy today.
High tide will be at 8:15 a.m., and low tide will be at 2:20 p.m. Your next high tide will be at 8:22 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading medium period swell 4 feet at 7 seconds out of the south-east, with a short period winds swell 4.6 feet at 6 seconds out of the south-east. So there is plenty of swell at the buoy, and should be some waves today.
We see fading but fun surf for today, with semi-clean conditions this afternoon as the tide drops out. Sunday into early next week is looking pretty bleak after a cold front pushes through our region and winds go offshore, pushing down any hope of surf. Looks like late week we might get another swell from Tropical Storm Sean, which is in the middle of the Atlantic and moving west. It’s a long way out, so we’ll have to monitor it, but it’s been a great fall for the East Coast, so hopefully luck will be with us.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “ A storm system will move northeast along the coast this morning and then quickly exit the region. A cold front will then sweep through tonight, followed by cool high pressure next week.
Water temperature is around 73*.
It has warmed up. It’s 73* with clouds this morning. We expect some clearing of the clouds today and a high of almost 80*.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:48 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
