Good morning and Happy Labor Day, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, Sep 5th at 8:30 a.m.

We will be opened from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Monday) for the holiday.  And remember, there will likely be lots of traffic today.

Waves at The Washout this morning knee-high. It is closing out on the beach at the lower tide. Perhaps it will be rideable on a longboard on the incoming late morning.

Winds are south-east at around 10 to 12 knots.  Surf is choppy, and it doesn’t have good form.

Winds stay south-easterly today, increasing 10 to 15 knots late day. Surf-zone looks to be choppy this afternoon.

Low tide is 9:23 a.m., and high tide will be at 4:10 p.m. The next low tide will be at 10:30 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 feet at 5.9 seconds in a medium-period, east/south-east swell. We are also seeing a 1.6ft-2ft at 10 seconds long-period swell in the mix. It’s not consistent and most likely a little cross swell from mid- Atlantic activity.

Might be some slightly rideable surf out here today on the incoming tide for the high-volume board, but the easterly wind on it and it has poor form.  As of now, we have tropical storm Earl in the west-central Atlantic, which will pass north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico over the weekend. This should send some ground swell into our beaches this week. Starting small on Labor Day and ramping getting a bit bigger on Tuesday. Look for swell to increase Wednesday through Friday. Winds should be moderate from the east for the remainder of the holiday weekend and into early next week, but there should be some surf to ride starting Tuesday and running through late in the holiday work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail today. A cold front will move into the region mid week and likely stall to the south through late week.”

Water Temperature is around 83*.

It’s 82* today with sun. We expect a mix of sun and clouds at the beach today. We will likely see some rain on-and-off around 2-4. We will see a high of 83* at the beach.

Sunrise is at 6:57 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:39 p.m.
