Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, August 15 at 8:30 a.m.
The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place at The Washout starting at 8 a.m. today. Hopefully we see you out there!
Surf at the Washout this morning is thigh-to-waist high at the morning’s lower tide. It is shutting down some at low tide, and does not have great form, ealy. It should get a slight push with the incoming tide. There is still some small ground-swell in the water for the contest today.
Winds are south/south-east at 10 knots, and surf is bumpy and semi-choppy, but there should be some better lines to be had as the tide comes in mid-morning.
Look for winds to stay fairly light this morning, going south-east at 10 to 15 this afternoon. We should see some surface chop later today.
We have a high tide at 2:08 p.m., and a low tide at 8:24 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 ft. at 7 seconds is a small, medium-period south-east ground swell.
We see small, thigh-to-waist high ground swell today with semi-choppy, bumpy conditions as Tropical Storm Fred moves toward the Gulf Coast near the border of Mississippi and Florida. There is another tropical storm – named Grace – following in Fred’s tracks, and this should enhance our swell more significantly during the work week as surf picks up with onshore south winds trending upwards into the middle of next week. There should be some sort of surf all week next week, so get your chores done this weekend.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “Deep tropical moisture will persist into mid-week between Tropical Cyclone Fred and its remnants to the west and Atlantic high pressure. High pressure should then build back later in the week while Tropical Cyclone Grace likely tracks northwest into the Gulf of Mexico.”
It is partly to mostly cloudy this morning. It is currently 81*. We see a high of 86* today and clouds this afternoon with a 50% chance for a rain shower/thunderstorm.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:43 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:03 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
