Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop report and forecast for Sunday, February 11 at 9 a.m.

Pier surf is kind of bumpy this morning and it’s fat and soft. It is semi-choppy in the knee-to-thigh high range with a rare waist set. It’s breaking like this up and down the beach, with waves better at The Washout. It’ might be rideable on a log or a high-volume board, but it’s not terrible. There is a little too much water under it right now, but it could get better for mid-morning as the tide goes out.

Winds are east at 10 to 12 knots, early.

We expect winds to clock south-west at 10 to 15 early afternoon, then blow 15 to 20 later today ahead of a storm system approaching overnight. Choppy, building south-west wind swell with poor form should begin for this afternoon into Tuesday.

We have a high tide as of report time this morning, low tide will be at 3 p.m., and your next high tide will be at 9 p.m.

Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 15 seconds in a long period easterly swell, with a fresh south/south-east wind swell that’s been building since about 3 a.m. and is now 6.2 feet at 7 seconds.

Look for south-wind swell to build as the tide comes in this afternoon with choppy conditions.  Surf falls off Monday, morning. It should pick up some Monday afternoon as our storm system passes though the area. Tuesday sees strong, side-shore, westerly winds and a chewed-up surf zone, before winds switch in the late Tuesday afternoon and clean up the surf (HOPEFULLY). Mid-to-late week, look for smaller surf as high pressure sets up over our marine area. This trend lasts until Friday, when another storm system moves in. We’ll keep you updated.

Water temp is around 55*.

The NOAA Marine Forecast for our waters calls for: “A storm system will impact the region tonight through Monday night. High pressure will return for the middle and latter half of the week. The next storm system could arrive late week into the weekend..”

It’s 60* and sunny. Look for a high of 65* today with clouds moving in and a slight chance of showers later this afternoon.

Sunrise is 7:08 a.m., Sunset 5:59 p.m.

That’s all from us at Ocean Surf Shop. We’ll check back tomorrow.
