Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, January 2 at 8:30 a.m.

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s Celebration. We look forward to surfing with you in 2022.

We just received a big shipment of Gary Wilson boards on the racks, and a quiver of Solid Surfboard mid-lengths and Logs. Come check out some freshies for 2022.

Surf at The Washout this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a chest high set. Looks like it’s starting to build to head high. It’s a bit soft at the higher tide, but there are rides to be had. You just gotta’ work for it.

Winds are south-west at 15 knots, and surf is choppy and disorganized with a drift up the beach, south-to-north.

Look for winds to stay west/south-west at 25 to 30 knots this afternoon. We see building south-west wind swell and choppy, drifty conditions all day.

Tide just started going out, and low tide will be at 1:28 p.m. The next high tide will be at 7:22 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 6.2 feet at 7 seconds in a building, short-period south-west wind-swell.

Look for choppy, drifty waves averaging chest-high (plus) for your Sunday with poor form and plenty of drift. After a cold front passage late tonight, winds go strong west on Monday morning then will rotate north early afternoon. Monday will be the best bet for a quick clean-up session after winds go more north in the afternoon. Waves drop rapidly Monday night as cold high pressure sets up to start the first week of January. Surf will get smaller into the middle of the work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A strong cold front will sweep through the region later tonight. Thereafter, much cooler high pressure will build into the area and persist through the middle of the week. Another cold front could impact the area late week.”

It’s warm and partly sunny this morning. It’s 67*. Look for a nice winter beach day with a high of 71* and some sun behind clouds this afternoon.  It’ll start raining overnight.

Water Temperature is hovering around 60*.

Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:25 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
