Sunday, Jan. 30

Clean. Choppy later as SW winds pick up.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Flat.
Traffic: Not too much, it's cold!
Parking: Lots.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, January 30 at 8:30 a.m.

We just received a shipment of Billabong men’s 4/3 wetsuits. You’ll certainly need one this morning. It’s pretty dang cold out there.

Surf at The Washout this morning is flat and clean.

Winds are west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is clean.

Look for winds to increase from the south-west at 15 knots this afternoon, with perhaps a higher gust. Surf should build in a weak, choppy wind swell on the high tide tonight, but certainly nothing to write home about.

We are coming off a high tide this morning, and low tide will be at 12:19 p.m. High tide is at 6:14 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 ft. at 4 seconds in a short-period north wind swell, and none of this swell is showing at Folly.

We see flat waves again today with really cold temperatures this morning. Look for south-west winds and choppy, short-period south-west wind waves for Monday in the thigh-to-waist high range. Swell falls off Tuesday and rotates more north-east for Wednesday and Thursday, picking up a bit. It’s looking like late week is the call for the best surf as a cold front approaches and we see south wind swell picking up chest high with choppy conditions Thursday through Saturday. After this cold front passage, winds will go strong north-east and push up another choppy, high angled north-east wind swell for Saturday into Sunday.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Cold high pressure will prevail today. Warmer and dry conditions are then expected until a cold front likely impacts the area late in the week.”

It’s 33* at Folly Beach this morning. It will be sunny with some clouds all day with a high of 50*. Not too bad this afternoon.

Water Temperature dropped to 48* with this cold snap. That’s about as cold as the waster gets at Folly.

Sunrise is at 7:15 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:50 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
