Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, January 9 at 8:30 a.m.

We have a full run of men’s 3/2 Billabong Wetsuits and Billabong 4/3 women’s suits on the racks. Just got here. Come check them out if you want to get some cold water surf this winter.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high in a building south wind swell.

Winds are west/north-west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is still a little choppy as south wind swell begins to arrive at the beach.

Look for winds to switch south at 10 knots late-morning, increasing 15 to 20 as a cold front approaches overnight. We see conditions get progressively choppier as the day wears on and surf should build.

We just had a low tide. We have a high tide at 1:16 p.m., and a low tide at 7:20 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.3 ft at 5 seconds in a building, short-period south-east wind swell.

We should see increasing choppy south wind swell building this afternoon as a cold front approaches for overnight. Winds go north on Monday morning, cleaning up a rapidly dropping south swell.  Monday morning in the incoming might be the time to go for best conditions. Tuesday looks like some choppy, drifty, north-east wind swell with a high angle will move into the beach behind the cold front. Probably rideable, but nothing to write home about. Mid-week looks small with nice weather. We should see another quick shot of south wind-swell late in the week as another cold front approaches our marine area.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will approach today, moving through the region tonight, then offshore on Monday. Colder high pressure will build over the region and prevail into mid week. Another cold front may approach the area later in the week.”

It’s nice on Folly this morning. It is 60* with sun. It’s warm. Look for a high of 67*, wind and some clouds moving in mid-afternoon.

Water Temperature is hovering around 57* after this little cold snap.

Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:31 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
