Choppy

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Waist-to-stomach. A bit bigger, occasionally.
Traffic: None
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: The Eddie

Good morning this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, January 22 at 8:30 a.m.

The Eddie Aikau event at Waimea Bay will run today and stream on surfline accounts youtube channel.

Surf at Folly Beach this morning is knee-waist high with a few plus sets and building.

Winds are south-east around 15 mph making for choppy surf.

We see winds rotate more SSW as the day progresses keeping the surf zone choppy.

Tide is dead high at report time, low tide will follow at 2:32 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6ft at 6 seconds in short period NE wind-swell. This will rotate more southerly today and build.

Surf has built some overnight, Folly currently showing some belly high sets although its onshore winds and not ideal. Look for surf to continue a building trend through today. Its looking like the winds will switch offshore late tonight grooming the surf for a dawn patrol sesh for Monday morning. Surf will get blown down quickly and remain flat on Tuesday. Wednesday we expect a upper level low pressure system to strengthen and emerge out of the Gulf of Mexico and into our swell window. Look for rapidly building surf on Wednesday into the head high range. Unfortunately models currently suggesting having the winds switch early Weds night to hard offshore potentially knocking the surf down a bit. Regardless I still believe Thursday morning is a timeframe to have circled for this week. Well keep you in the loooop!

A low pressure system will produce unsettled weather today until a cold front crosses the area late. High pressure will then briefly return before another low pressure system impacts the region midweek. High pressure is expected late week into the weekend.

It’s 56* and rainy today. Look for a high around 60 with continued down pours today.

Water temperature, it’s 55*.

Sunrise is at 7:20 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:41 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
