Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, January 8 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at the Washout this morning are knee high.

Winds are north-west at 5 mph this morning providing clean conditions. Just not much swell out there. It’s kind of weak, as the tide is pretty high, early.

We see north-east winds at 5 to 8 knots come east this afternoon. Surf-zone stays semi-clean today, with not much surf in the forecast.

We just came off a high tide, and low tide will be at 2:48 p.m. The next high tide is at 8:50 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 ft at 8.3 seconds in medium period SE swell.

Small swell at the buoy means small waves at the beach. After a cold front passage tonight, look for strong offshore winds for Monday as high pressure sets up over our marine area. This will keep surf small through mid-week. We look for improvement in size late Thursday into Friday when a storm system moves out of the northern GOMEX and moves into our area Friday, when we will see the biggest conditions, with strong south winds. Winds will go strong offshore after the system moves out, but hard to tell right now when a clean-up might take place. We’ll keep you updated.

Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will linger through this afternoon. A weak cold front is forecasted to move through tonight, followed by High pressure prevailing through midweek. A storm system is expected to bring impacts to our area towards the end of the work week.”

It’s a sunny and nice at the beach. It is 50*. Look for a decent beach day with clouds moving in for afternoon and a high of 62*.

Water temperature, it’s 55*.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:31 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
