Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, July 17 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout are thigh-to-waist high with an occasional stomach high set. Maybe a bit bigger. Either way, it looks like a fun surf alert for today.
All your best friends are already in the water.
Winds are north – side-shore – at 6 to 8 knots, and surf zone is clean.
We are expecting winds to increase south-east at 10 to 15 by mid-afternoon. We should see some chop in the surf zone later today, but waves will likely stay fun all day.
We see a high tide at 11:42 a.m., and a low tide at 5:42 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.3 feet at 7 seconds on a mix period of south-east ground swell and south-east wind swell.
Surf looks fun this morning, and we should see some waves all day. Things get choppy this afternoon as winds come south-east at 15 knots. We could see a more significant swell increasing Monday as high-pressure sets up well off the Mid-Atlantic states, pushing in some trade wind swell Monday and Tuesday, with Monday seeing the biggest surf. The south-west winds will start getting on in Monday afternoon into Tuesday, but there will be surf though mid-week, with low-quality short period south-west wind swell increasing late week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A surface trough will linger near the area for much of this week. High pressure will build in next weekend.
It’s 80* with cloudy skies and storms just offshore this morning. Look for a high of 83* and a chance for a shower or T-storm this afternoon.
Water Temperature is around 84*.
Sunrise is at 6:23 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:27 p.m.
