Choppy

Time of Report: 8:15 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Waist-chest high
Traffic: None
Parking: Lots
Dangers: Drift

Good morning, this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, June 19 at 8:30 a.m.

New Gary Wilson boards arrived on Friday. Come make sure to check them out while the selection is still good. This might be our last batch for a while.

Surf at Folly is stomach to chest high and drifty at the lower tide this morning. The incoming low tide might negatively impact the wave size late morning, but keep an eye on the cams this afternoon once low tide has passed.

Winds are south, south-west at 10-15 knots, and surf zone is a messy, drifting south to north, and disorganized. If you happen to find the peak of the set waves rolling in, you’ll most likely have a fun little ride. The waves are coming in slightly angled, with an average of 2-3 rides per street based on the strength of drift.

Look for winds to increase this afternoon substantially out of the south at 20+ knots into the evening, which should continue producing even more choppy and disorganized conditions.

We have an incoming low tide this morning at 10:22 a.m. and high tide will be at 4:56 p.m.

If you’re willing to fight against the current and disorganized surf, you’ll most likely find some fun little waves. Tropical Cyclone Claudette moves on-shore in the Central Gulf Coast tonight. The weekly forecast should remain in the waist high range, potentially bigger, with a consistent south-westerly wind direction. Our weather and surf Monday through Wednesday will continue to build, with associated south-westerly wind-chop swell as inclement weather passes to our west, and a cold front moves through during the middle of next week. We then see a high angled north-east wind swell fill in late next week behind the front.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “Tropical Depression Claudette will move through the Carolinas tonight and Monday. A cold front will pass through the local area Tuesday through Wednesday. A broad low pressure trough will then linger across the region into next weekend.”

It’s 82* cloudy and windy at the beach. Look for a high of 82* mostly cloudy skies today with chances of rain increasing throughout the day into the night. You should expect to see showers all week, as Claudette moves into the area.

Water temperature is around 81*.

Sunrise is at 6:13 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:31 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
