Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, May 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Congrats The James Island Charter High School Girls Varsity Soccer team and Boys Varsity Soccer team. Both won the 4A State Championship in Irmo Yesterday. Free wax today for all James Island High School soccer players.
Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high and kind of weak. There might be a bigger set, and it’s not bad for the long-board glide.
Winds are north/north-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is glassy.
Look for winds to continue north this morning at 5 knots, becoming south-east 5 knots this afternoon. Surf should be semi-clean all day, and fade out some later this afternoon on the low tide.
We have a high tide at 11:35 a.m., and a low tide will be at 5:25 p.m.
There are some longboard waves out in the water this morning as the tide comes in. This should fade out some as the tide rolls out, with bumpier conditions this afternoon. Atlantic High pressure sets up this week, and should keep some knee-high surf in the forecast for the first part of the week. As high pressure sets up off-shore mid-week, look for increasing trade wind swell later in the work week.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will prevail through next week.”
We have perfect beach weather. It’s 71 and sunny. Look for a high of 78* today and nice weather.
Water temperature is up to around 73*.
Sunrise is at 6:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:13 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
