Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, May 6 at 8:30 a.m.
Lots of new boards and new gear for men and women is arriving daily for spring and summer. Come get looking like the beach stud/studette you are before summer comes a-callin’
Speaking of summer, this is the morning to be at Folly Beach. The weather is perfect cool morning with a California style (temperature wise) afternoon will be upon us later. We can make up for the heavy rainout yesterday. I’d like to know the fecal coliform numbers, quite frankly. Hey @charlestonwaterkeeper, what are we looking at after the first half-inch of rain in a loooong time?
And the reason for the longwinded opening to the surf report…is the surf is pretty small and weak at the higher tide this morning.
It’s running around knee to thigh high, but there are some skilled loggers getting it done on this beautiful morning.
Surf zone is clean with a north wind around 5 to 8 knots this morning. This will switch light from the south-east by late day.
We have a high tide around now (9:25 a.m.) low tide will be at 3:25 p.m., and the next high tide is at 9:59 p.m.
NOAA forecast reads: “High pressure will build in through Wednesday, then a cold front will move through Thursday night.”
I’d bet on mid-week (Wednesday into Thursday) for best options this week as high pressure moves off the Mid-Atlantic and a cold front approaches for Thursday arrival. This turns winds south/south-east and should push up a fun little “locals” mid-week swell. Thursday the winds pick up south-west at 15 to 20, but surf increases in size, but it’ll be choppy until MAYBE late day. Surf goes flat quickly after the cold front passes late day Thursday. and next weekend looks to have beautiful weather and small surf. Get it mid-week if you can.
It’s 59* and sunny with perfect spring weather. Look for bright sun and perfect temps with a high of 70* and sun all day.
Water temperature took a little dive with the heavy rain. It’s around 68*.
Sunrise is at 6:30 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:03 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
