Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, October 6 at 8:30 a.m.

We have plenty of neoprene jackets and spring suits. Come see them so you can get in the surf this week. It’s supposed to get chilly.

Surf this morning looks like it’s picked up. There looks to be some Kirk swell in the water from a long-distance off, and the buoy is reading, so this should be the start of a week of building – with north-east winds increasing – swell.

Surf at Folly is running waist to stomach high with chest highs sets.

Winds are light north-east and will pick up at 10 to 12 knots this afternoon. Surf is clean this morning, and we see slight chop this afternoon.

We have high tide at 10:06 a.m , low tide will be at 4:28 p.m.

Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 feet at 14 seconds in a long-period south-east swell.

There is some swell at the buoy today, and we see a gradual increase in waves all week, but the fly in the soup comes from north-east winds, which are forecast to pick up 15 to 20 knots by Monday night. This trend runs into late week. Swell from Hurricane Kirk has arrived, and we see increasing swell from Hurricane Milton, which is in the GOMEX and plans to cross Florida from west to east. This should move into our swell window Thursday, but with this system to our south and high pressure to our north, expect strong north-east winds for most of the week. Either way, there are some waves coming, we just expect strong current and some chop as wave pick up all week. It’ll be getting cooler this week, so get some neoprene on.

The NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail today. A cold front will push across the area Monday night into Tuesday as Tropical Storm Milton strengthens over the Gulf of Mexico. The center of Milton is forecast to track east across Florida on Wednesday as a hurricane, tracking over the western Atlantic Wednesday night into Thursday. High pressure should build across the region by late next week. Refer to the latest advisory on Milton issued by the National Hurricane Center.”

It’s 72* and cloudy. Look for a high of 80* today with clouds and some sun peeking through the clouds.

Sunrise is at 7:15 a.m., Sunset 7:01 p.m.
