Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, September 4 at 8:30 a.m. We hope everyone has a great Labor Day Weekend.
We will be opened from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Sunday) and Monday this weekend for the holiday. And remember, there will likely be lots of traffic.
Waves at The Washout this morning knee-high. It is closing out on the beach at the lower tide. Perhaps it will be rideable on a longboard on the incoming late morning.
Winds are east at around 10 to 12 knots. Surf is choppy, and it doesn’t have good form.
Winds stay easterly today, increasing 10 to 15 knots late day. Surf-zone looks to be choppy this afternoon.
We are just coming off a low tide, and high tide will be at 3 p.m. The next low tide will be at 9:25 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 feet at 9 seconds in a medium-period, south-east swell. There is a small, short-period south-east wind swell component, but it’s probably not worth mentioning.
Might be some slightly rideable surf out here today on the incoming tide for the high-volume board, but the easterly wind on it and it has poor form. As of now, we have tropical storm Earl in the west-central Atlantic, which will pass north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico over the weekend. This should send some ground swell into our beaches this week. Starting small on Labor Day and ramping getting a bit bigger on Tuesday. Look for swell to increase Wednesday through Friday. Winds should be moderate from the east for the remainder of the holiday weekend and into early next week, but there should be some surf to ride starting Tuesday and running through late in the holiday work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will extend into the area early this week. A cold front will slowly move through and likely stall in the vicinity mid to late week.”
Water Temperature is around 83*.
It’s 79* today with sun. We expect some unstable weather at the beach and clouds mixed with sun. We will likely see some rain on-and-off today. We will see a high of 83* at the beach.
Sunrise is at 6:56 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:40 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
