Thursday, April 1

Clean, textured.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Thigh-to-waist. Slightly larger. Dropping quickly.
Traffic: It's spring break somewhere, evidenly.
Parking: Some.
Dangers: Spring break.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, April 1 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf is overhead and glassy. Perfect barrels running for 50 yards or so over the reef, and the water is crystal blue EVERYWHERE. Nah. It’s April Fools Day.

Sorry for the late report. There was an island-wide power outage last night and into this morning. If anyone farts in the wrong direction at Folly Beach, the power usually goes out across the island.

Surf at The Washout this morning is thigh-to-waist high with a plus set and looks fun for the high-volume board in a rapidly dropping south wind swell.

Winds north-west at 15, and surf is clean and soft.

Look for north-west winds to increase 20 to 30 as a cold front moves offshore of our beaches, and surf should drop small by late day.

We have a high tide at 11:27 a.m., and a low tide at 5:23 p.m.

Virtual buoy readings are showing 2.4 ft. at 10 seconds in long period east/south-east wind swell. Off-shore wind should blow the swell down this afternoon.

A few fun ones out here this morning for the high-volume board. A cold front moves offshore late morning, brining strong off-shore winds and fading surf to the beach this afternoon. Winds/swell pushes off-shore Friday and into the weekend, when surf goes small and we see unseasonable cool temperatures.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “A strong cold front will shift offshore early this morning, followed by dry and cool high pressure building across the region through the weekend. Warmer conditions will then return early through the middle of next week.”

It is currently 60 with clouds. Look for a high of only 62* today with sun this afternoon and increasing off-shore winds.

Water temperature is around 63*, but it should drop some over the weekend. It should climb rapidly next week.

Sunrise is at 7:07 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:39 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
