Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 20 at 8:30 a.m.
We just received a small shipment of Catch Surf Ben Gravy Pro Model soft boards. They likely won’t last long. Come snatch them up.
New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.
Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high. It is soft at the morning’s high tide. Looks fun for the high-volume board.
Winds are east at 5 to 8 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy.
Look for winds to shift south-east at 8 to 12 knots this afternoon, adding some surface chop to the surf zone.
We have a high tide at 9:30 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:31 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:48 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 ft. at 8 seconds in a medium-period, easterly swell.
There is a small wave out here this morning for the longboard glide. The remnants of Topical Storm Josephine are moving out of our swell window and ground-swell has lost some steam. We do have high pressure to our east, and this should push in some small trade-swell through the end of the week. Nothing too big, but might be a few fun ones with moderate southerly winds forecast for our area. Also Tropical Depression 13 is in the Western Atlantic, and should push some swell our way Monday and into the middle of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A stationary front over the area will gradually weaken late this week. High pressure is then expected to prevail early next week as Tropical Depression 13 potentially moves into the eastern Gulf of Mexico.”
It’s 76* with clouds off-shore and some sun this morning. Look for a high of 84* and a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm this afternoon.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunrise is at 6:46 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:58 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
