Thursday, Aug. 27

Very clean, early. Choppy later today.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Ankle-to-knee. Rare thigh.
Traffic: Not too much.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: Covid-19 spike in Charleston County.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 27 at 8:30 a.m.

New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.

Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.

Surf at Folly this morning is ankle-to-knee. Rarely there is a thigh-high set.. It’s drained out at the morning’s low tide. It should get better form as the tide comes in.

Winds are light from the north-west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is very clean.

Look for winds to stay rotate south late day at 10 to 15 knots, and surf should chop up some later this afternoon.

We have a low tide at 9:30 a.m., and a high tide will be at 4:15 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 ft. at 7 seconds in a small south-easterly swell.

We expect the south-east swell we have enjoyed for the past two days to fall off some today, with a fresh, choppy south-west wind swell arriving on Saturday ahead of a cold front. Surf falls off for Sunday and into the next work week. We could see some residual swell from a tropical wave during the middle of next week, but it’s a long way out.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will persist through Friday, before a cold front stalls over the area this weekend. Weak high pressure should then return early next week.”

It’s 77* and mostly cloudy. Look for a high of 87 with a 20% chance of rain this afternoon.

Water temperature is 86*.

Sunrise is at 6:51 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:49 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
