Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 16 at 8:15 a.m.
Remember that Surfers Healing takes place at the Folly Beach Pier on Thursday, August 23rd. Check it out at www.surfershealing.org.

Waves at the Washout are knee to thigh high with a waist set. It’s closing out at the morning’s low tide, but could get kinda’ fun mid-morning as the tide fills in.
Winds are light from the west at 5 knots, and surf zone is fairly clean, early.
We see south-west winds at 10 knots this afternoon, becoming south at 10 to 15 knots late day.
Tide is coming in. We have a high tide at 12:56 p.m. today, and a low tide be at 6:54 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.3 ft. at 7 seconds in a mix of medium period south-east swell and short period south-west wind swell.
Look for a slight increase in south/south-west wind swell/ground swell toward the latter part of the work week. Nothing to write home about, but it won’t be completely flat. Waves should average knee to thigh high, with perhaps a slightly bigger set at the right tides. This swell holds through Saturday before dissipating Sunday afternoon. Tropics are still eerily quiet for this time of year. Bring on the hurricane swell, but not the hurricane.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “The area will remain between low pressure inland and high pressure offshore through early next week. A larger area of low pressure will develop over the eastern United States by the middle of next week.”
It’s 81* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 90* and a 20% chance of a thunderstorm today.
Water temperature is 85*.
Sunset is at 8:06 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:41 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
