Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 17th at 7:00 a.m.
Surf at the Washout right now around knee-to-thigh high. It’s glassy, but weak on the high tide could be a plus set here and there. Overall looks like a fun morning for the higher vol sticks.
Winds are west around 5 knots, and the surf zone is clean.
Look for south-west winds to create choppy conditions this afternoon as it increases 10-15 knots later today.
The tide is high at 9:23 a.m. We will see a low tide at 3:21 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft at 6 seconds in short period south south-east wind swell.
Surf looks sort of fun at the moment its small but clean lines early knee- thigh high with maybe a plus set. This trend continues into Friday, before high pressure sets up to our north-east and we should see a trade wind style swell combined with a tropical wave/swell to our south. This could push up some longer period ground swell Saturday afternoon into Sunday/Monday with more favorable wind conditions at of the south-east. Hopefully it might get fun later in the weekend. The Atlantic is beginning to awaken as well several weak-moderate lows forming in the eastern Atlantic that we should keep our eyes on for next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will linger across the area through Thursday, then move offshore as high pressure builds in from the west. A trough of low pressure could move in from the Atlantic Saturday night or Sunday.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 78* this morning. Look for a high of 86* and partly cloudy. Looks like a chance of rain this evening.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
