Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Surfers Healing will be taking place at the Pier all day today. That’s today at the Pier. Come check it out and help kids with Autism live the surfing life.
Surf at The Washout this morning is in the ankle-to-knee high range.
Winds are south-west at 5 knots, and surf is bumpy.
Look for winds from the south-west today at around 10 knots, and surf looks to stay small and semi-choppy today.
We are coming off a low tide, and high tide will be at 1 p.m. The next low tide will be at 7:17 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 ft. at 10 seconds in small, a long-period east/south-east swell.
High pressure controls our weather for the next several days, and we see small south wind swell in the forecast. There is a tropical sport to watch near the Bahamas that could spin-off a home-grown system over the weekend, National Hurricane Center gives it a 20% chance to develop over the next several days. It’s close to home, so it’s not a big swell maker, but this tropical weather system could push up some wind swell Sunday and into the early part of next week as it skirts near our marine area; depending on its development. Not too much predicted right now, but something to keep an eye on in the short term. In the long term, there is also a really healthy tropical wave coming off the coast of Africa, we’ll see if the National Hurricane Center gives this one any love.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure and an inland trough will prevail through late week. A cold front will then push into the area this weekend before stalling over or just to the south. Low pressure may develop offshore along the front but should move quickly to the northeast away from the area by mid-week.
It’s 81* with sunshine this morning. Look for a high of 87* with a 20% chance of rain this afternoon.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:47 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:56 p.m.
