Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, December 24 – Christmas Eve –  at 8:30 a.m.

We will close at 2 p.m. today for Christmas Eve. We are wishing you all a happy holiday season. We won’t have a report for you on Christmas morning. It’ll be cold and windy on Christmas Day, so bundle up!

Surf at Folly this morning waist-to-chest high with a shoulder set and building.

Winds are south at 10 to 20 knots with strong storms off-and-on in the area. Surf is choppy.

Look for winds to increase south at 20 knots, with a higher gust later today. Surf should get choppier as the day wears on.

Low tide is at 9:37 a.m., and high tide will be at 3:41 p.m. The next low tide is at 9:42 p.m.

Virtual buoy data is reading 6 ft at 6 seconds in a building, short period south/south-easterly wind swell.

A cold front passes through later this evening, and south winds and south wind-swell will be on the increase all day. Surf should be choppy and drifty this afternoon as surf size increases. This swell will likely fade out over-night Thursday into Christmas morning. Hopefully we can get a cleanup session Christmas morning, but westerly winds will be blowing really hard with surf dropping off and getting really cold for Christmas morning. We aren’t looking at too much surf for the weekend, as high pressure sets up, and temperatures remain chilly.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A strong cold front will push through the area this evening. Cold high pressure will then prevail through the weekend. Another cold front will move through the region early next week, followed by more high pressure.”

There is a gale warning in effect this afternoon. We have heavy rain at the beach this morning. It’s 65*. Look for clouds and rain, increasing this afternoon. We see a high of 68* today.

Water temperature has dropped to 55*.

Sunrise is at 7:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:18 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
