Good morning, this is Bates with your Folly Beach surf report and forecast for Thursday, December 12 at 8:30 a.m.
Come see us for the surfer on your holiday list. We have gift cards and all sorts of other goodies.
Surf is pathetically flat. If you can think of a better simile or metaphor than “flat as a pancake” then insert it here. It’s also cold, so there’s that, too.
Winds are westerly at 5 to 10, and surf zone is clean.
We just came off a low tide approaching at 11:03 a.m. High tide will be at 5:03 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is 2 feet at 5 seconds in a short period east/north-east swell rolling away from our beaches.
Hard offshore winds knocked down what was a pretty epic – but cold – afternoon session yesterday after a cold front passed through our beaches. Behind this cold front passage, we see slack, offshore wind today going north later. Strong north-east winds are predicted Friday and Saturday, so there will likely be some bigger, high-angled, north-east wind swell in the water through Sunday, but don’t expect too much as it will certainly be rideable, but windy and drifty. Most forecasters are predicting high-pressure to set up off the Mid-Atlantic early next week and a frontal boundary stalls offshore of our waters and send in a decent sized trade wind swell, pushing in a wave for the first half of the next work week. So strap on the booties and get some.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will extend across the area into next week.”
Water temperature dropped to 56*.
It’s 40* and sunny with light winds this morning. Look for a high of 55* and sun today. Not a terrible beach day for a walk in your jacket.
Sunrise was at 7:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:15 p.m.
Thanks for tuning in for the Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast.
