Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, December 29 at 8:30 a.m.
Just a heads up. We will close at 2 p.m. on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, and will be closed on New Year’s Day. We will open for normal business hours on Monday, January 2. Happy New Year.
Waves at the Washout this morning are knee-to-thigh high. Maybe larger in a set. It looks kind of fun for the high volume board. Maybe that’s just because it’s been so small for the past week.
Winds are north at 5 knots. Surf zone is clean.
Look for winds to be north at 5 knots this morning. Going north-east then east at 10 to 12 knots this afternoon. There should be slight surface chop on the water this afternoon.
Tide is coming in. High tide will be at 12:57 pm. Low tide will be at 7:02 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft at 9 seconds in a small medium-period south-east swell.
Today, we see a high pressure settle itself off the mid-Atlantic moving more offshore as a low-pressure system moves in for the weekend. This should begin some onshore flow generating some south-east swell. Look for a slow building trend beginning Friday morning with bigger surf for Saturday, but south winds will likely keep things fairly choppy for Saturday as a cold front approaches the marine area. Waves could clean up nicely for New Year’s as the tide comes in late morning and the winds switch west behind a cold front. That would be a great way to start 2023.
Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will persist through Friday. A cold front will move through Saturday night, followed by high pressure through early next week. Unsettled weather could return the middle of next week.
It’s not cold this morning. It’s 53* and mostly cloudy. Look for clouds mixed with some sun, and a high of 59*.
Water temperature went way down over the past few days. It’s 49*, and you’ll need a 4/3 booties, gloves and a hood for this weekend’s swell.
Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:22 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
