Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for your Thursday, February 17 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf picked up some overnight. It’s running waist-to-stomach high range with a chest high set. Maybe slightly bigger.
Winds are east around 5 to 10 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy. It’s a bit soft at the high tide with water up on the high part of the beach. But there are rideable lines, and it looks fun this morning.
Look for increasing south winds throughout the day. Eventually becoming south at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon. We see choppy surf today, with some decent size for Folly Beach.
We have a high tide as of report time. Low tide will be at 1:48 p.m., and high tide will be at 8:29 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 6.2 ft at 6 seconds in a short-period south-east wind swell, with a south-east medium period swell. Plenty of swell at the buoy and should be some surf in the water all day.
We have on-shore flow and it is sending in a typical, pre-frontal winter-time south swell with bigger conditions and southerly winds keeping things fairly choppy for afternoon. This trend continues Friday. On Saturday, winds come more north, and we could see a possible clean-up early on Friday with colder temperatures. Winds go strong north/north-east Saturday afternoon, and we see high-angled north-east wind swell fill in late weekend. High pressure sets up to our north-east off the mid-Atlantic states early next week, and we could see some small, lazy trade wind swell with slightly cleaner conditions Monday though Wednesday of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Thursday. A cold front will advance through the area Friday, followed by high pressure for the weekend and early next week.”
It’s 56* with sun this morning. Look for a warm day and sun mixed with clouds. The high will be around 67*.
Water Temperature is around 53*.
Sunrise is at 7:01 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:06 p.m.
