Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, February 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is knee-to-thigh high. The tide is hurting it right now, but it should pick up some on the incoming.
Winds are west/south-west around 5 knots, and surf-zone is overall clean.
Look for south winds a south-wind swell to pick up significantly this afternoon. We see south winds at 10 to 15 with gusts to 20 knots ahead of a cold front. Surf will be choppy this afternoon.
Low tide is at 10:19 a.m., and high tide will be at 4:06 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 feet at 6 seconds in a southerly ground-swell/wind-swell combo.
There is a little surf out here this morning. We expect it to build this afternoon, but choppy conditions will prevail. A cold front approaches our marine area today, and south winds pick up late morning. Might be best to get on it this morning if you want some cleaner surf. Winds go strong south-west on Friday. Kind of the typical, pre-frontal wind swell, with lots of drifty south-west wind swell on Friday. Winds pick up strong from north-west Friday night, and north wind swell should build in drifty, high wind swell with not much size. These wind abate some for Sunday, when waves will drop in size, but have better form. A little more south wind swell gets pushed in for your Monday.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through tonight. A cold front will sweep across the area Friday. High pressure will then return this weekend and persist into the middle of next week.”
It’s 65* and cloudy this morning. Expect a high of around 73* later today with sunshine and clouds mixed.
Water temperature is 57*.
Sunrise is at 7:02 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:05 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
