Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, February 9 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is running about knee high and it’s nice and glassy. There is an occasional thigh set, but it’s pretty weak, so bring the log if you want to get wet.
Winds are slack this morning.
We expect south winds at 10 knots this afternoon, adding some slight surface chop to small surf.
High tide is at 9:44 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:55 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:09 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 feet at 12 seconds in a long period easterly swell, with a short period south-east wind swell reading 2.6 feet at 4 seconds.
There is a little longboard wave out here this morning, and it’s a good bet that surf will pick up some late day as the tide starts to come in late this afternoon. Might be worth a look. A cold front will stall just offshore tonight and Friday. Friday looks to offer some rideable surf as well. This will be followed by a strong storm developing along the cold front just offshore for Saturday. This will kick up a bigger north-east wind swell with chop and drift. Sunday, winds are predicted to come west, but with the storm so close to our coastline, it’s hard to tell which direction the wind will be coming from, but you can bet it’ll be blowing. Hopefully there will be a clean-up session Sunday.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “A cold front will stall just south of the area Friday night. A powerful storm system will develop along the coast Saturday, then move northeast through Sunday. High pressure will briefly build in early next week, then a series of cold fronts will move through mid to late next week.”
It’s 62* and cloudy this morning. Sun should come out from time-to-time today, with a high of 66*.
Water temperature is 57*.
Sunrise is at 7:09 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:59 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
