Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, January 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a chest high set.
It looks fun, but it’s cold!
Winds are north at 10 to 12 knots. Surf zone is side-shore, drifty and semi-clean in a high angled north-east swell.
Winds continue north/north-east today at 10 to 15 knots, making for a continued side-shore, semi-choppy, drifty surf zone this afternoon.
Tide is going out. Low tide will be at 12:51 pm. The first high tide was at 6:45 am and the next high tide will be at 6:48 pm.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.6 ft. at 10 seconds in an east/north-east swell.
We see continued north-east swell today with drift in the surf zone. Surf should continue to average waist-to-stomach high. We see a storm system pass across our marine area tonight and Friday, pushing more east/south-east swell into the beach Friday into Saturday, before surf falls off some late Saturday and Sunday as high pressure returns by Sunday morning.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A storm system will impact the region tonight through Friday night. High pressure will return Saturday and persist into early next week before a weak low pressure system approaches the area during the middle of next week.”
After the cold front passage yesterday, it’s cold. It’s 42* and partly cloudy with a wind chill of 38*. Look for a high of 57* today with wind and sun.
Water temperature has dropped WAY back down to 54* with the cold snap.
Sunrise is at 7:20 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:40 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
