Semi-clean. Semi-chop later.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Flat.
Traffic: None.
Parking: Lots.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, January 20 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is once again flat.

Winds are south/south-east at 10 knots and surf zone is semi-clean, but it’s too small to ride.

Look for south-west winds at  10 knots this afternoon, and we see a semi-choppy surf zone today.

High tide is at 9:07 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:23 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:27 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 ft. at 8 seconds in a small, medium-period easterly wind swell.

Surf is looking small today ahead of a cold front moving into the area this afternoon. We see a cold front stall offshore into Friday. Look increasing east/north-east swell with a high angle on it as a low pressure system develops off-shore along this stalled cold front. This low begins to track north-east for the weekend. There should be plenty of medium-sized north-east wind waves mixed with easterly swell for Friday and Saturday, but the weather and the quality of the surf won’t be great because of strong north winds and cold weather. But that never stopped ya’ before, so charge it!

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will move through the region today, then will stall off the coast tonight. Low pressure will develop along the front Friday then move northeast Friday night and Saturday. This low will produce a period of freezing rain in some areas. Dry high pressure will then build from the west Saturday through Monday. Low pressure could affect the area next Tuesday, followed by another cold front by the middle of next week.”

It’s nice this morning. It’s 60* and sunny. Look for a high of 66* with some sun and clouds moving in later. It’s not a terrible day to be at the beach. But we do expect rain Friday with some icing overnight on Saturday morning.

Water Temperature has gone down. It’s hovering around 52*. It’s mid-January.

Sunrise is at 7:20 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:41 p.m.
