Drifty, very choppy. Hopefully cleaning up later.
Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, January 24 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at the Washout this morning are chest-to-head high with a larger set wave to slightly over-head.
Winds are south at 30 knots, and surf is super drifty, chunky and choppy.
Look for winds to clock strong westerly late morning after a cold front passage, blowing at 15 to 20. Hopefully this will clean the surf up some, and not just blow it out.
We have a high tide at 10:15 a.m., and a low tide will be at 4:29 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 10 feet at 7 seconds in a significant south/south-east wind well. With a south/south-east ground swell 8 ft at 9 seconds. LOTS of swell at the buoy this morning headed straight for Folly Beach.
Hopefully this large south-east wind swell will clean up as the day wears on and winds become westerly this afternoon. Keep an eye on the flags. We see leftovers for Friday morning in the waist high range. Surf fades out late day, Friday. The weekend surf looks small, so go surf today or tomorrow morning if you can.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A strong cold front will move offshore this morning. High pressure will then prevail through early next week. Another cold front will move through Tuesday, followed by high pressure”
It’s 63* and raining hard at the beach. Look for rain to clear off later this afternoon and we should have some sun this afternoon and a high of 65*.
Water temperature is around 55*.
Sunrise is around 7:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:42 p.m.
