Dangers: None.

Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, January 25 at 8:30 a.m.

The pier will be closed for a few weeks while crews re-do the parking lot on site.

Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-stomach high and building.

Winds are west south at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is choppy and the tide is pretty high up into the rocks at The Washout.

We see winds increase significantly this afternoon at 15 to 20 with gusts to 20 knots as a low pressure system moves from the west and into our marine area this afternoon. Expect bug, choppy wind-swell this afternoon.

Tide is incoming with a high at 10:39 a.m. low tide this afternoon at 4:43 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.6 feet at 5 seconds in a short period, south-east wind swell. It is building.

Today, we expect a stormy low pressure system to interact with our marine area. Look for rapidly increasing south winds and surf size should build this afternoon into the chest-to-head high range with a lot of south winds on it. Unfortunately models currently suggesting having the winds switch around overnight on Wednesday night potentially knocking the surf down a bit overnight. Regardless this swell should have enough fetch and strength to provide some surf leftover on Thursday morning, but the westerly winds will be strong and gusty, Hopefully it doesn’t blow out the clean up on Thursday. Friday and the weekend is looking small as high pressure sets up.

The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: High pressure will remain in control of our weather today before another frontal system impacts the region midweek. Thereafter, high pressure returns for late week and into the weekend.”

It’s 66* and cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 65* and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Water temperature, it’s 55*.

Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:45 p.m.
