Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, January 28 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly is flat.

Winds are north-west at 20 knots, and surf zone is textured and drifty, with wind straight offshore blowing down any significant swell.

Look for north-westerly winds to increase this morning at 25 to 30 knots as high pressure moves in behind a passing cold front. Surf stays down.

We are coming off a high tide. Low tide at 1:38 p.m., and a high tide will be at 7:41 p.m.

The virtual buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 4 seconds in a north-west wind swell, pushing swell away from our beaches.

Strong north-west winds overnight blew down the surf. A low-pressure system is forecast to form east of the mid-Atlantic states late in the work week. This should push up a significant north-easterly ground swell, but most of the swell will pass by Folly for late week. Points south in Florida that like north-east swell should pick up significantly late week and into Saturday. We see another bigger, choppy south wind-swell on Sunday, cleaning up and fading into Monday as a cold front moves offshore to start your work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will build into the region today and will prevail through Saturday. A low pressure system will impact the area Sunday into Monday, followed by high pressure through the middle of next week.”

It is 47* with clouds and light rain showers at the beach. Look for a high of 50* and sun coming out later this morning. There is a gale warning in effect until 2 p.m. with strong north-west winds in the forecast.

Water temperature is 54*.

Sunrise is at 7:16 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:48 p.m.
