Good morning Big, Wide Wonderful World. It’s another glorious day at Folly Beach on this Thursday, July 18th at 10 a.m. Surf report process started around 9 a.m., but y’all ain’t HERE to HEAR about how slow I’m getting on my surf report mornings.
Coming to you on an outgoing tide at the pier, surf at Folly is running knee-to-thigh high and could be waist on the incoming but I have a feeling it’ll chop up too much on incoming later today. Surf is a weak south-west wind swell, but winds are side-shore this morning.
You’ll need the old summertime log to make it all come together, or you can hop up and down on your bladed-our new short-board and hop around like you’re trying to learn how to jump on a trampoline. We all like to ride in our own way, and who am I to have preferences.
Winds are out of the south-west pretty light this morning, but with high-pressure hanging around off-shore, winds will pick up strong south-west this afternoon and we see building short-period wind chop that won’t be too big or too fun to ride.
Lots of current UP the beach later today, west to east for all you “thuds” our there. (“thud!” is the sound your extremities make when we try to bunny hop a 9’0” high-performance longboard over your head while you are SWIMMING in the impact-zone. There’s water well inside the take-off zone. Please swim there on big swells. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.)
We expect kind of a typical summer weather pattern to persist for the next few days and into your weekend. During the weekend, we expect swell to get SOMEWHAT better south direction, but still some chop, south-west wind, and summer patterns.
Next week models are showing south-swell with good direction. But IT’S a ways out. Pray for mid-summer waves.
We have a low tide at 11:40 a.m., and a high tide at 6:27 p.m.
The Edisto buoy reads 5.2 at 5 seconds from the SSW. With a south medium period swell 2 feet at 8 seconds, but it’s blown by the south-west wind swell/chop.
The water temperature is hovering right around 82*.
It’s currently 83* and sunny all day. Expect a high of 88* with possible pop up rain in the afternoon. It’s pretty humid out
Sunrise 6:25 a.m., Sunset 8:26 p.m.
That’s all from us at Ocean Surf, check back tomorrow.
