Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, July 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout are thigh-to-waist high with potential for bigger set once the tide turns. Overall pretty drained out with the low tide. Winds are on it this morning and it is choppy with a drift to the north.
Winds are west/south-west at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is side-shore and choppy/bumpy
We are expecting winds to increase south-west at 10 to 15 by mid-afternoon with gusts around 20 knots late day. We will see continued chop in the surf zone this afternoon.
We are coming into a low tide at 8:47 a.m., and high tide will be at 3:21 p.m. The 8:47 next low tide is at 9:38 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at an average of 6 seconds in a short period south-west wind wave.
Look for better waves on the incoming tide late morning when the tide starts to fill in. There is some surf out here, it’s just not the best quality, but it is rideable. Things continue choppy this afternoon as winds increase south-west averaging 15 knots. High pressure continues well off the Mid-Atlantic states today. The south-west winds continue and there will be surf though mid-week. Low quality, short period south-west wind swell increasing late week and into Saturday. Low quality south-west wind swell is on tap, but at least there will be something to play around on. High pressure sets up Sunday and into early next week, so expect small tradewind swell to continue early next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A trough of low pressure will linger well to the west today. A cold front will drop into the area Thursday night, then dissipate Friday. High pressure will build in through the weekend and early next week.”
It’s 78* with high clouds and sun mixed. We’ll have a high of 85* today with a chance of showers in the late afternoon.
Water Temperature is around 84*.
Sunrise is at 6:25 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:26 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
