Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, July 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at The Washout are knee-high as the low tide this morning. May get a little push with the incoming tide.

Winds are south/south-west at 15 knots, and surf zone is choppy and disorganized.

We are expecting winds to increase from the south-west around 15 to 20 knots today by lunch time today then going south this evening at 15 to 20. We see a building, choppy south/south-west wind swell for the next several days.

We just had a low tide, and high tide will be at 2:41 p.m. The next low tide will be at 8:56 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading a mix of short period south-west wind swell – 2.3 ft at 4 seconds, and a medium period east/south east swell, 2 ft at 7 seconds. The short period south-west wind swell component will build this afternoon.

We see building south-west wind waves as a front approaches our marine area into Saturday. Look for choppy, drifty surf to average thigh-high and a bigger set Friday and Saturday, with south-west winds keeping things bumpy, drifty and choppy. Winds are forecasted to stay steady out of the southwest through the weekend and then possibly go north-west by Sunday. This may open the window for some small clean surf Sunday as wind swell quickly fades. Surf looks small to start the next work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the region most of this week. A front will shift across the area late weekend, then stall just south of the region. High pressure should then prevail into the middle of next week.”

It’s 85* and sunny this morning. We see a high of 87* with a slight breeze throughout the day and a heat index right at 100*. There should be some clouds moving in later this afternoon.

Water Temperature is around 84*.

Sunrise is at 6:18 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:30 p.m.
