Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Thursday, June 2 at 8:30 a.m.
Hurricane season has begun, and there is already some tropical action brewing in the Gulf of Mexico that could push in some surf late in the weekend into early next week.
We have small surf at Folly this morning. Just the usual summer dribble – ankle-to-knee – but it is a beautiful morning, and at least the weather is swell.
Winds are west at 5 to 10 knots, and surf is clean and weak. Might be a good morning to get the SUP on the open water.
Look for winds to become south-west this afternoon increasing late to 10-15 knots.
High tide will be at 10:34 a.m., and low tide will be at 4:17 p.m. The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 feet at 6 seconds in a shorth-period, south/south-east wind swell.
WE see a cold front approaches our marine area Friday. This front becomes stationary over the weekend. This will bring some south-west wind swell for Friday, transitioning to a building drifty easterly wind swell on Saturday. We are monitoring a tropical low (right now Invest 91L and possibly Tropical Storm Alex this weekend) moving out of the GOMEX , across the Florida peninsula, and into our swell window Sunday afternoon into Monday. Best guess is Monday perhaps being the best of the two days with less easterly wind, especially late Monday morning. Look for some leftovers on the incoming tide Tuesday before swell begins to fade mid-week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will generally prevail through tonight. A cold front will move through our area on Friday, then transition into a stationary front along the Southeast coast over the weekend. Low pressure originating in the tropics is expected to pass to our southeast early next week.”
It’s 77* and sunny. High of 85* with sun and perfect beach weather.
Water Temperature is around 82*.
Sunrise is at 6:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:23 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
