Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Thursday, June 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly still has some size on it. It’s thigh-to-waist with a stomach high set. Maybe slightly bigger. It’s not as clean as it was yesterday morning, though. And everyone must be surfed out, because no one is on it.
Winds are strong from the south/south-west and surf is choppy and drifty up the beach from south-to north.
Look for strong south winds today at 20 to 25, so we see choppy south wind swell to average waist high with bigger sets for your Thursday, and this should continue into Friday.
We have a high tide at 11:33 a.m. Low will drop out at 5:17 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at 6 seconds in a short-period south wind swell. And this should push waves into our beaches all day, but the local wind forecast is not looking stellar.
Mid-to late week, we see south/south-west wind swell pick up as a stationary front lingers over our area, then lifts north late Friday into Saturday. This should bring increased southerly winds. South west wind swell should get smaller on the outgoing tide Saturday afternoon and into Sunday, but likely still something to ride. As Tropical Storm Bret starts to move west/south-west, the northerly wind field of the storm should push a little ground swell our way late in the weekend into early next week. There is another low now called Tropical Depression Four behind Tropical Storm Brett that could keep the early summer swell train running through the middle of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Low pressure will develop across the region and then prevail into late week.
Water temperature is around 80*
Its 78* with clouds and showers this morning. We should see storms this afternoon with a high of 83* and high humidity.
Sunrise is at 6:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:31 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
