Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, June 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at Folly this morning are knee high. Maybe a little bigger at the higher tide this morning. Overall, it’s pretty small and weak out here this morning. Bring the long-board if you want to get wet.

Winds are west/south-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is clean early this morning.

Winds are forecast southerly at 5 to 10 knots this afternoon, so we should see some bump in the surf-zone later today.

Tide is starting to go out, and low tide is at 1:12 p.m. and high follows at 7:47 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.6 ft at 9 seconds in a small east/south-east swell, with a small short period south-west wind swell 1.3 ft at 4 seconds.

Surf looks pretty small today. We see typical summer south/south-west wind swell fill in and increase some for Friday. This choppy, south/south-west wind swell should build over the weekend as a cold-front approaches and lingers in our marine area early next week. Stronger, side-shore, south west winds are predicted for the weekend. Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico. It is predicted to move north towards the Louisiana coast perhaps by late in the weekend. This, along with a cold front lingering in our area, should significantly increase choppy south swell through the middle of next week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will remain offshore through late week, while a trough of low pressure persists inland. A cold front will advance into the region on Sunday and then linger in the vicinity into the middle of next week.”

It’s 75*, cool and cloudy. Look for a high of 80* today and a chance of showers on-and-off today.

Water temperature is around 79*.

Sunrise is at 6:10 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:25 p.m.
