Good morning this is Bates your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, March 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is dead flat this morning.
The surf zone is clean with a slack wind.
Winds are predicted to come south-east this afternoon at 5 to 10 knots and create a slight surface chop on small waves later today.
We have a low tide at 9:54 a.m., and a high tide at 3:42 p.m. Tide will be low at 10 tonight.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.6 feet at 9 seconds in a medium period easterly swell.
Surf is looking small today, but we do look for surf to pick up significantly by Friday afternoon in a choppy, drifty south-west wind swell ahead of a cold front that should pass through sometime on Saturday, eventually cleaning up at some point on Saturday afternoon, so keep an eye on the flags. There could be some small, cleaner leftovers for Sunday. We do expect the passing frontal boundary to stall off-shore on Monday, and there could be a significant coastal storm developing Monday with strong north-east winds early week. As the storm develops during the middle of next week, we could see swell and wind increase significantly for mid-week.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will drift offshore through tonight. A cold front will move through our region Friday night into Saturday morning. The front could become stationary just off our coast this weekend, possibly followed by a coastal storm next week.
It’s 47 and sunny today. Look for a high of 63* and sun. Pretty nice beach day on tap.
Water temperature fell back to 61*. Brrrrr.
Sunrise is at 7:28 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:28 p.m.
