Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, March 31 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is waist-to-chest high with an occasional head high set.

Winds are south/south-east at 15 to 18 knots, and surf zone is choppy, but there are some big drops to be had if you’re into it.

Look for increasing south winds at 20 to 25 knots this afternoon. We see gusts to 40 knots later today. Look for a surf to show “Victory at Sea” conditions this afternoon. Not a good day for beginners or lessons. There is a gale warning in effect this afternoon.

We are coming off a high tide just before report time. Low tide will be at 2:09 p.m. High tide will be at 8:25 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 10 feet at 8 seconds in a medium period south swell.

Big south swell in the water today with windy conditions this afternoon and dangerous surf conditions for those we aren’t seasoned. A cold front passes overnight. Friday sees a gradual clean-up as winds gradually clock off-shore by Friday afternoon. The front should stall off-shore for the weekend, keeping some small longboard-style surf in the forecast Saturday. We see stronger north-east winds Saturday morning, so it likely won’t be too clean until Saturday afternoon. Surf looks to fall off some for Sunday.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A warm front will lift north across the area today, followed by the passage of a cold front late Thursday into early Friday, before stalling south of the region through the weekend. Dry high pressure will prevail early next week, before unsettled weather returns during the middle of next week.”

It’s currently 70* and cloudy. Look for strong storms this afternoon, and there is a gale warning in effect.

Water Temperature is around 64*.

Sunrise is at 7:09 a.m., and sunset will  p.m.
