Good morning this is Bates you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, March 9 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high in a high angled north-east wind swell.
Winds are north/north-east at 15 to 20, and surf is drifty, weak and choppy.
We expect north-easterly winds at 15 to 20 this morning, with winds switching more easterly and falling off to 10 knots late day.
We just had a high tide, and low tide drops out at 2:50 p.m. with another high filling in at 9:09 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4 feet at 5 seconds in a short-period north-east wind swell. Most of this swell is passing by our beaches.
We stronger winds from the north-east today, pushing swell past our beaches. We see a quick shot of choppy south wind swell for late Friday afternoon ahead of another cold front. Likely nothing to write home about. If you want some surf, Florida might be the best call as the forecast calls for a north-east swell this weekend into early next week. We see another shot of short period south wind swell Monday morning on the incoming tide as a cold front passes through the area. Then into the middle of next week, it looks pretty dismal, with north winds and cooler weather.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail today. A cold front will impact the area Friday into Friday night, followed by high pressure over the weekend. A low pressure system will pass across the region early next week. High pressure will return thereafter.”
It’s cool 59* and partly cloudy. Look for partly cloudy skies and a high of 62* today.
Water temperature is up to 65*, but it’s likely to drop a few degrees in the coming days.
The days are getting longer. Sunrise is at 6:37 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:23 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
