Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, May 11 at 8:30 a.m.
The SSC-ESA Ocean Surf Shop contest will take place at The Washout on Saturday morning just after sunrise, so wax your sticks and get ready to be a winner.
There will also be a paddle-out to honor Samantha Miller and her family on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 2nd Block on the East end of Folly. Show some community pride, and let this family know that we all mourn with them.
This morning at the Washout on an incoming tide the surf is showing knee-rare-thigh high in a side-shore, semi-choppy, weak north-east wind swell. A lot of swells are passing by our beaches. Florida might be your best bet for surfing through Friday.
Winds are north-east at 15 knots, and surf is choppy and current is flowing down the beach. The current is just starting to pick up overnight.
We see east winds at 10 to 15 knots today, and drifty high-angled north-east wind swell will be the call for your Thursday.
We have a high tide today at 1:14 p.m. Low tide will drain out at 7:17 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.4 at 6 seconds in mixed period east/north-east swell.
High pressure dominates our weather for the next several days. Weak high pressure sets up off the Mid-Atlantic states Friday through Sunday, and hopefully pushes a few small wave into our beaches Saturday and Sunday. Nothing too big but pull out the longboard and maybe catch a glide, but really not too much to get excited about in the forecast through the early part of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail through early next week. A cold front should arrive by the middle of next week.”
Its 72* this morning and sunny. Look for nice beach weather with sun and clouds mixed and a high of 75*.
Water temperature is 72*.
Sunrise is at 6:23 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:09 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
