Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, May 17 at 8:15 a.m.
The annual ESA Ocean Surf Shop points contest will be on Saturday at the Washout. Come on out and support the amateur competitive surfing here in the Lowcountry.
Surf at the Washout is running waist to chest high with head-high sets.
Winds are south-east at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is bumpy and choppy, but it looks FUN.
We expect south winds at 10 to 15 with gusts to 20 knots this afternoon making surf choppy and bumpy all day.
High tide will be at 10:04 a.m., and low tide will be at 4:02 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:24 p.m.
The Edisto buoy reading 5.9 ft. at 7 seconds in medium period south-easterly swell and southerly wind swell combination.
We still have plenty of surf in the forecast for today, with mostly choppy conditions this afternoon as winds blow south 15 to 20. This trend continues for Saturday, and we expect more surf this weekend as high pressure builds to our east and pushes in a decent trade-wind swell into the weekend. Surf should trend smaller to start the work week, but we should see continued rideable surf through the middle of next week. Conditions won’t always be perfect with south/south-westerly winds, but there is some surf of varying quality in the forecast for the next five days or so. Get in the water before the doldrums of summer set in.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Low pressure to the southwest will weaken and lift north by Friday. Atlantic high pressure will prevail Saturday through much of next week.”
It is cloudy and 73* as of report time. Look for a warm day with a high of 78* today and a 40% chance of rain and T-storms.
Water temperature is now up to around 77*. Shed all that neoprene. We have TONS of rash guards at the shop.
Sunset is at 8:013 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:18 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
