Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, May 20 at 8:30 a.m.
We have new Torq boards and a shipment of Rusty surfboards that just arrived, come check them out. We also have Carver skateboards back in stock. Get ready for summer with Ocean Surf Shop.
Surf at The Washout this morning is thigh-to-waist high with a stomach set. It could build some on the incoming, but expect conditions to get pretty choppy as easterly winds pick up
Winds are east at 10 knots, and surf zone is side-shore, and a bit drifty down the beach with choppy conditions. It is closing out in the bigger sets at the lower tide.
Look for winds to rotate more easterly and increase 15 to 20 knots this afternoon, chopping up the surf.
We have a low tide at 8:55 a.m., and a high tide at 3:11 p.m. The next low tide is at 9:17 p.m.
Look for choppy easterly wind swell to build on the incoming tide late morning into the waist-high (plus) range with poor conditions. Atlantic High pressure dominates our weather this week, and we should see building, high-angled east/north-east wind swell. This should fill in through the end of the week and into Saturday. Surf could drop off a bit but clean up for Sunday. There is also a sub-tropical low moving near Bermuda that has a chance to develop into Tropical Storm Ana. It’ll likely send some small swell to the Outer Banks into the weekend, but likely not much for us here.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the region through the middle of next week.”
We have nice beach weather. It’s 73 and sunny. Look for a high of 76* today and partly cloudy skies.
Water temperature is around 74*.
Sunrise is at 6:17 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:15 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
