Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, May 5 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout this morning are knee-to-thigh high. There is an occasional waist high set, but a little weak.
Winds are west/south-west at 6 knots and surf is semi-clean.
Look for winds from the south-west at 10 knots this morning, becoming more southerly this afternoon.
High tide is at 11:40 a.m., and low tide will be at 5:24 p.m. The next high tide is at 11:48 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 feet at 7 seconds in a short period, mixed south/south-east wind swell.
We will likely see a continued small south wind swell/ground swell for today averaging knee-to-thigh high (plus/minus). There should be lazy, small trade-wind swell this week as high pressure sets up and keeps moderate on-shore flow in the forecast for the majority of the work week. Nothing too big, but perhaps some longboard surf and nice weather. A cold-front approaches as we enter the weekend and surf should increase in choppy south-west wind swell late Friday and Saturday. There is a chance for a low to form off-shore of a stalled frontal boundary early next week. This could push up a high angled north-east swell. Likely some wind and waves for Folly, but this swell will probably hit a lot better in Florida. So, if you have the means, head down that way for some real surf.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will prevail today. A cold front is expected to move through the region this weekend. High pressure will then prevail early into the middle of next week.”
It’s 75* and sunny this morning. Look for the perfect beach day with a high of 84* and sunshine.
Water Temperature is around 75*. It’ll be 80* before you know it.
Sunrise is at 6:29 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:04 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
