Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, Nov.12 at 8:30 a.m.
City Council reiterated that there is to be no surfing within 200 feet of the pier as construction continues. Please abide by these regulations, so we don’t lose the privilege to surf in the area. The City will restrict surfing for two blocks in either direction if the local surf community does not stay 200 feet away. Law enforcement will be enforcing the ordinance.
Surf at Folly is waist-to-chest with a bigger set and looks to build with the early afternoon tide push. There is a lot of south-east ground swell in the water.
Winds are blowing south-east at 10 gusting to 20 knots in squalls this morning. Surf is bumpy and semi-choppy, but it looks pretty fun. It’s certainly punchy and has some size.
Look for winds to stay south-east at 10 to 15 knots today, and we see bumpy, fairly choppy south-east ground swell all day.
Low tide is at 11 a.m., and high tide will be at 5 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 9.9 ft. at 8 seconds in a medium period south/south-east swell.
Still plenty of swell in the water, and surf looks to be pretty fun on the incoming tide early this afternoon – averaging waist to chest high with a plus set – as winds stay directly on-shore today from the south-east, causing some chop and bump. Tropical Storm Eta moves north-east across the Central Florida Peninsula and into our swell window into Friday, and winds are forecast to become more side/off-shore on Friday, so hopefully there will be some cleaner surf on Friday, as bigger swell begins to fade some for the weekend. Next week looks to be pretty small, so better get some waves over the next few days.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Tropical Storm Eta will track northeast across northern Florida and into the western Atlantic through tonight. High pressure will build in Friday through the weekend. A cold front will sweep through early next week followed by dry high pressure. Refer to the latest advisory on Eta issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
It’s 74* with clouds and rain showers this morning. Look for a high of 75* with clouds and rain moving into the area off-and-on all day.
Water temperature is around 70*.
Sunrise is at 6:47a.m. and sunset will be at 5:19 p.m.
