Dangers: Folly Beach becoming like Vail or Aspen.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, November 18 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout is knee-to-thigh high. It’s bigger than it has been, but still not great. Bring the high volume board.

Winds are north at around 5 knots, and surf zone is semi-clean and waves don’t have a lot of punch.

Look for winds to go south mid-afternoon at 10 knots. We see bump in the surf zone this afternoon.

Tide was high just around sunrise. Low tide will be at 1:09 p.m. High tide will be at 7:10 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft. at 5 seconds in a small, short period south-east wind swell. This should build a bit later this afternoon.

Surf is still small at Folly, but it’s rideable on the high volume board. Look for slightly bigger conditions with semi-chop in the surf zone as the tide comes in later today. For Friday morning, we could see some bigger south wind swell pushing against a north wind, but the swell will likely be short lived. After the cold front passage early Friday, winds come strong north, then north-east. We see drifty but rideable north-east wind swell fill in for Saturday with strong north-east winds in the forecast. Looks like the north-east winds will calm some for Sunday, so hopefully a small, high-angled north-east swell will show for Sunday morning at the higher tide.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail today. A cold front will cross the area tonight, with high pressure returning for the weekend. Another cold front will move through next Monday, followed by much colder high pressure.”

It’s 62* and mostly cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 71* today with mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance for a rain shower.

Water temperature is now 61*.

Sunrise is at 6:52 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:17 p.m.
