Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, October 22 at 8:30 a.m.

Keep in mind, there are no more parking restriction at Folly Beach. Parking is now available on Center Street and all side-streets.

The Folly Beach Pier is now closed as they prepare to tear it down and build a new structure.

Surf at Folly is showing waist-to-stomach high with chest-high sets. Maybe slightly bigger on a set.  It is closing out at bit on the lower tide this morning but looks kind of fun in an easterly ground swell.

Winds are moderate from the north at around 10 to 15 knots, and surf is side-shore and bumpy, but There are some clean sections.

Look for winds to come more onshore from the east and increase around 15 to 20 by mid-afternoon. Might want to get on it this morning before surf gets choppy later today.

We have a high tide at 1:28 p.m. and a low tide at 7:38 p.m.

Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 4.4 ft at 10 seconds in a long-period east/south-east ground swell.

Surf look fun through the high tide early afternoon. It’s averaging waist-to-chest high. Easterly winds will get into it this afternoon, chopping things up. Look for surf to continue late week as Hurricane Epsilon – south-east of Bermuda – gains strength and begins to move north. This should pick surf up easterly ground-swell through the latter part of the work week into Saturday. Winds will trend moderate north-east to east for the period, so expect some drift in the swell.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Weak high pressure and a coastal trough will persist across the area through the rest of this week. A weak cold front is expected to push across the region this weekend. Another front is forecast to reach the forecast area by Wednesday, possibly remaining as a stationary front into late next week.”

It’s 73* this morning with clouds at the beach. Look for a high today around 78* and mostly cloudy skies today. There is a chance for a shower.

Water temperature is 72*.

Sunrise is at 7:29 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:37 p.m.
