Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, October 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly is waist-to-stomach with a chest set in a very choppy, drifty south wind swell.

Winds are strong from the south at 20 knots, and we expect higher gusts as the day wears on. Winds should clock south-west by mid-afternoon and gust to 30 knots.

We are coming off a high tide around daybreak, low tide will be at 1:14 p.m. The next high tide will be at 7:24 p.m.

Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 4 ft at 6 seconds in a building south wind swell.

We have building, choppy south wind-swell in the water today. Hurricane Zeta is forecasted to merge with an oncoming cold front that will affect our marine area today and overnight, with strong south-west winds and a quick shot of choppy, drifty south wind swell. Look for surf to build all day in choppy, drifty conditions. Swell should clean up late-morning/early-afternoon on Friday, as strong westerly winds go north-west as surf fades with the strong off-shore flow. We see high-angled north-east wind swell build through the weekend behind tonight’s cold front passage, and this high angled north-east wind swell should carry into early work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Tropical Storm Zeta will move well to the northwest and north of the region today as a cold front pushes offshore tonight. High pressure will prevail this weekend. A weak cold front is expected early next week, followed by more high pressure.”

It’s 78* and cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 80* with clouds and a 30% chance of a shower. Look for thunderstorms tonight as the cold front begins to pass through.

Water temperature is 74*.

Sunrise is at 7:35 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:30 p.m.
