Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, September 19 at 8:30 a.m.
We have tons of wetsuit tops and jackets for men and women. Come on by and pick one up as the morning air temperatures is starting to cool off some.
Surf at The Washout this morning is in the thigh to waist high range with a stomach high set. It is semi-clean and textured with current running north-to-south down the beach.
There are gusty side-shore winds blowing 15 to 25 knots from the north.
Look for north-east winds – more on-shore – this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots gusting to 20, adding some chop and drift to a continued ground swell surf.
We have a high tide at 11:35 a.m., and a low tide will be at 5:58 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 7 ft. at 12 seconds in a long-period, high-angled easterly ground swell.
Surf at the Washout is running waist high with a stomach high set in an easterly easterly ground swell courtesy of departing Hurricane Humberto. North-east winds after a cold front passage this afternoon will keep surf choppy and drifty. We will see strong north/north-east winds today and Friday after a cold front moved through overnight. Surf fades a bit Saturday but will clean up some with lighter winds expected for the weekend. Smaller surf is expected Sunday, but still likely a rideable wave all weekend. Tropical Storm Jerry is in the Central Atlantic approaching the Leeward Islands. Jerry should become a hurricane by Friday, and we should begin to see ground swell from Jerry late Sunday into Monday of next week. This swell should be more organized/longer-period swell, but likely won’t be as big as we have seen from Dorian and Humberto, but GOOD swell none-the-less and – likely – less wind.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will provide noticeably cooler and drier conditions today, then prevail through early next week. A cold front could push into the region around the middle of next week.
We have nice weather this morning. It’s 66* and sunny. Look for a high of 80* and sun today.
Water temperature is 82*.
Sunrise is at 7:05 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:21 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
